Philippine Hot Air Balloon Festival, Pampanga

WHERE: Clark Airfield, Angeles City, Pampanga

DATE OF TRAVEL: February 10, 2007

WHY YOU SHOULD GO:
Because watching the balloons rise one by one while the sun unfolds is a sight to behold. In addition, this festival is the biggest aviation event in the country today.

FEES: Php 100 per person per day

NOTE:
There's a LOT of people and the crowd can literally multiply in minutes! Usually, the balloons go up from 5:30-7am so leave for Clark early if you want to see them. It gets really hot and there’s hardly any shade so do not forget to bring liquid, shades and umbrella. You may also opt to bring monoblocks or foldable chairs in case you want to rest or get "taller" than the crowd for a better view of the event and a better angle for your shots.:)

DESCRIPTION:
The Philippine Hot Air Balloon Festival is a 4-day event held every year during the month of February (usually the second week) and remains to be the biggest aviation event in the country. It has been ongoing for more than 10 years already and showcases different aviation shows - from flying hot air balloons to sky-jumping exhibitions to kite flying competitions to para gliding to light plane shows to anything else that can be done on air. This is probably the only time in the Philippines when a number of hot air balloons go up together while the sun is rising. Visitors may ride the balloon for a fee of about $150 per head. The ride length is about 30-45 minutes and you cannot make reservations for it. It's a first come, first served system so line up early if you want to experience how hot it really is to ride a hotair balloon.:P
